Genl George Rogers Clark Chapter

Illinois Society, Sons of the American Revolution

Chapter History

Our Beginning

The application for the Genl George Rogers Clark Chapter was approved on February 22, 1986. Col. Charles B. Schweizer was the chapter founder. The chapter adopted the form used by its namesake in his signature: “Genl George Rogers Clark.”

The chapter has a long record of patriotic, historical, educational, veterans, youth, color guard, grave-marking and community programs. In 2014 the chapter was recognized as Illinois SAR Chapter of the Year.

Preserving the Record

This rebuilt site preserves selected material from the chapter's earlier website, including ceremonies, programs, grave markings, historic flag presentations and chapter activities.

Archive Status

Historical photographs and captions will be added as original image files are recovered and new photographs become available. Older material is identified as archival so it is not confused with current chapter information.

George Rogers Clark

George Rogers Clark (1752–1818), a Virginia surveyor and militia officer, led the western campaign that captured Kaskaskia and later Fort Sackville at Vincennes during the American Revolution. His campaign helped establish American control in the Old Northwest. Virginia later promoted Clark to brigadier general.

The chapter honors Clark's service and the Revolutionary generation through historical education, commemorations and patriotic service.
